British Red Cross. As you are of course aware, they are
represented on the Committee of the British Fund for the
Relief of Distress in China (formerly the Lord Mayor's Fund),
and so far as we know have not made any independent
contributions' of Red Cross supplies to China, such as appear
to have been made by the Swedish, Polish, American, and other Red Cross Societies (see article in the "People's Tribune"
of July, 1938). We have thought it best, therefore, to put the matter in the first place before the Committee of the above Fund with our warm support. I hope you will not think
us unsympathetic or unhelpful. We do appreciate the hardships of the Chinese wounded and I can assure you we shall do what we can within the possibilities of the situation to remedy
them.
